Rebuilding Earthquake Affected Lives (REAL) in Afghanistan

Project Location:    Nurgal and Sawkai districts, Kunar Province, Afghanistan

Project Duration:    10 months (February 2026 – November 2026)

Following a major earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, many rural communities experienced severe losses of homes, livestock, and essential livelihoods. The disaster significantly affected food security, income sources, and overall resilience, particularly in remote and vulnerable areas.

In partnership with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), this project aims to support early recovery and strengthen livelihoods by providing targeted assistance to affected households. Key interventions include the distribution of livestock and poultry packages, veterinary support, and practical training on animal husbandry, hygiene, and disease prevention.

Through these activities, the project seeks to improve household income, enhance food security, and build long-term resilience. A strong focus is placed on community engagement, transparent beneficiary selection, and capacity building to ensure sustainable outcomes.

The initiative also incorporates ongoing monitoring, feedback mechanisms, and coordination with relevant stakeholders to maintain accountability and effectiveness. By empowering households with both resources and skills, the project contributes to sustainable recovery and reduced dependency on external aid
