Program: Afghanistan Humanitarian Response
Project Period: 1 October 2025 – 30 September 2026
Implementing Partners: Your Voice Organization (YVO) in partnership with Peace Winds Japan (PWJ)
Location: Kuz Kunar District, Nangarhar Province
In response to Afghanistan’s ongoing food crisis, Peace Winds Japan, in partnership with Your Voice Organization (YVO), is implementing a life-saving humanitarian project to support the most vulnerable households in Nangarhar Province. According to the 2025 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, millions of Afghans continue to face severe food insecurity, with Nangarhar identified as one of the most affected provinces due to economic decline, forced returns, and limited livelihood opportunities.
This project targets 100 highly vulnerable households including female-headed households, households headed by persons with disabilities, and returnee families who are experiencing acute food insecurity and socioeconomic hardship. The intervention aims not only to address immediate food needs but also to strengthen household resilience through sustainable food production.
Key project activities include:
Food assistance, distributed every two months in line with Food Security and Agriculture Cluster (FSAC) guidelines, to ensure safe and equitable access to essential food items.
Poultry assistance, providing beneficiary households with poultry kits, feed, and materials, along with practical training on poultry rearing, nutrition, and disease prevention to support sustainable income and food sources.
Nutrition awareness sessions to improve household dietary practices and food utilization.
Through a community-based and carefully monitored approach, the project supports approximately 7840 individuals, helping vulnerable families meet their immediate food needs while building long-term resilience. The project is implemented by YVO with technical oversight and coordination from PWJ, ensuring accountability, quality implementation, and alignment with humanitarian standards.
This initiative is supported by Japan, with clear visibility and community awareness activities conducted throughout project implementation.
