Project Title : Relief for Earthquake-Affected Families in Dara-e-Noor District, Nangarhar Province
This project is implemented by Your Voice Organization (YVO), which serves as a third-party monitoring and community-based organization with a strong track record in delivering cash assistance interventions in Nangarhar Province.
The project implemented over a two-month period, from 15 October 2025 to 15 December 2025, in Dara-e-Noor District of Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.
In recent weeks, a series of earthquakes has struck eastern Afghanistan, with Dara-e-Noor district among the worst affected areas. Continuous aftershocks have further weakened already damaged structures and intensified fear and trauma among affected communities. As a result, many families are currently living in temporary and unsafe shelters, with limited access to adequate food, safe drinking water, and essential medical supplies.
The overall goal of the project is to provide life-saving cash relief to households affected by the earthquake, enabling them to meet their most urgent needs with dignity and flexibility. The project specifically aims to deliver cash assistance to support access to food and other critical household necessities during the immediate emergency period. and as well as give harmony awareness to the villagers
The project targets earthquake-affected households, with priority given to widows, elderly-headed households, persons with disabilities, and families whose homes have completely collapsed. Beneficiary selection was based on vulnerability criteria identified through field verification and community consultation.
To ensure effective and accountable implementation, YVO and with committee conducted rapid needs assessments to identify and prioritize the most vulnerable households. A community elder group, consisting of three trusted representatives from the same community, was formed to support beneficiary verification, facilitate transparent distribution processes, and strengthen community ownership of the response.
Cash assistance provided through two monthly payments, with each distribution verified by the community elder group and closely monitored by YVO to ensure fairness, accuracy, and accountability.
As a result of the intervention, targeted households receive life-saving cash support, improving their ability to meet immediate food and medical needs. In addition, the involvement of community elders in the distribution process enhances local participation, transparency, and ownership of humanitarian assistance.
