Project Name: Emergency Food and NFI Assistance for Vulnerable Households in Paktika

Project Overview
In response to the devastating earthquake in Paktika Province, Your Voice Organization (YVO) and Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) collaborated to implement an emergency food and non-food item (NFI) assistance program. The project aimed to provide immediate relief to the affected households in Geyan District, ensuring they received essential supplies to sustain themselves during this critical period.
Project Achievements
Target Area and Beneficiaries:
5118 households in Geyan District, Paktika Province, were provided with emergency food and NFI assistance.
Key Activities and Implementation:
Coordination and Beneficiary Selection:
Comprehensive coordination with Afghan authorities, the NFI and Food Security Clusters, WFP, local communities, and other stakeholders.
Ensured beneficiary selection avoided duplication and that information on project progress was regularly shared with stakeholders to maintain transparency.
Formal Agreements:
Signed an MOU with the Office of the State Minister for Disaster Management to formalize the implementation of the project.
Registered the project with the Ministry of Economics, ensuring compliance with national regulations.
Food and NFI Distribution:
Distributed tokens to selected and approved beneficiaries, which were redeemed for food and essential household materials.
Items included staple food supplies and essential NFIs to meet immediate needs.
Health Awareness Campaigns:
Distributed COVID-19 awareness brochures and diarrhea prevention materials during the first token distribution, focusing on promoting hygiene and preventing disease outbreaks in affected areas.
Protection and Accountability Measures:
Emphasized protection against sexual exploitation and harassment (PSEA) and ensured the confidentiality of beneficiary information.
Implemented security measures to protect project staff and beneficiaries.
Followed the “do no harm” principles, prioritizing the safety and dignity of all involved.
Provided beneficiaries with a clear mechanism for submitting feedback or claims related to project activities.
Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM):
Conducted thorough visits to all beneficiaries after each distribution to monitor the use of the distributed items and gather feedback on the project’s impact.
Commitment to Standards
The project was executed with strict adherence to the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability, ensuring high-quality service delivery, transparency, and accountability at every stage.

This initiative played a vital role in providing life-saving support to thousands of families affected by the earthquake in Geyan District, helping them stabilize and recover in the aftermath of the disaster.
